SoftBank Telecom Engages Openwave for Mail Services


SoftBank Telecom, a subsidiary of Japan-based SoftBank Corp., has selected Openwave Rich Mail, an AJAX-based Adaptive Communications solution developed by Openwave Systems (News - Alert) Inc., to enhance the performance of its newly launched Rich Mail services. Openwave is a leading independent supplier of software products and services to the communications and media industry.

 
SoftBank Telecom wants to leverage Openwave’s Rich Mail to provide its ODN and SpinNet Internet service customers’ a feature-rich messaging experience. Openwave Rich Mail has been specifically designed for carrier-scale deployment, providing a dynamic customizable Web interface for broadband and mobile communications solutions.
 
Kiyoshi Shinano, Manager and Project Leader at SoftBank Telecom, stated, “SoftBank Telecom renewed its Web mail service to continue to provide higher value to customers of our ODN and SpinNet Internet services. We have positioned this service as a 'Next Generation Messaging Service’ and the collaboration with Openwave has proven to be a successful opportunity to provide a state-of-the-art Internet service designed to improve the overall user experience.”
 
“This Web Mail renewal is a pivotal service that demonstrates innovation being driven by our company. Openwave’s Rich Mail solution allows us to provide our customers with an easy-to-use, unique messaging experience that provides us the competitive edge in the Web 2.0 content and communications market,” Shinano added.
 
Openwave Rich Mail is an integral part of Openwave’s Adaptive Communications suite of products and solutions. Its Web-based interface can be customized by the user, offering enhanced functionalities such as email content preview, “drag and drop” facility, access to voice calling, and information services through contextual hyperlinks within the email text.
 
This service will be used as the Web front-end of SoftBank Telecom’s ODN Internet service, facilitating a seamless Internet experience that aggregates content, communications, and community into an efficient Web 2.0 Internet experience.
 
Kaz Ishii, general manager Nihon Openwave Systems Japan, said in a statement, “The Web 2.0 experience is changing the way we communicate -- bringing together content, communications and community to create a seamless Internet experience across broadband and mobile markets.”
