blinkx Doubles Size of Advertising Sales Team to Support Massive Online TV Opportunity

Looking to capitalize in the emerging online video market, blinkx, a video search engine, has announced that it has doubled its advertising sales team to support new business development. With these new recruitments, the company plans to continue its aggressive growth in this area.

Kat Kashefi, formerly an account director for Euroclick, will soon join Blinkx in its London office as advertising sales manager. He will be accompanied by Erik Esfandiary, who worked for five years in TV sales for Sky Media. The company’s San Francisco office will soon see the arrival of Darrin Porter in the role of director of advertising sales. Darrin Porter previously worked for Ziff Davis. Jason Whidby, who was with the advertising sales department for MTV, will be a sales manager for blinkx based in Los Angeles.

Along with the above recruitments, the company has also recruited Maximiliano Ramirez, who has worked around the country for a number of top online publishers and created the successful advertising networking event “Digital Wednesdays.” He will now join blinkx as director of advertising sales and will be based in New York.

Blinkx provides the users with various ways to search the new online content such as a video clip. As the online TV and video advertising market grows a tremendous rate, the company quotes a recent report from Forrester Research (News - Alert) which states that the market will reach $7.2 billion in the United States by 2012. Looking to capitalize on this massive opportunity, the company launched the world’s first truly contextual advertising platform for Internet television and video, AdHoc in 2007. With the help of blinkx’s unique processing technology, AdHoc matches video content and consumer profiles to relevant ads. Since then, it has been used in successful campaigns for leading brands, including Dell (News - Alert), Best Buy and Nokia.

“We’re strengthening our team to help us take on a tremendous opportunity in online video advertising,” said Federico Grosso, senior vice president of business development, blinkx. “I am delighted that we have been able to attract several top advertising sales executives, all of whom have proven track records of success, and a wealth of contacts in the media industry.”
