Siemens AG and Airbiquity Co-Develop Data Communications Solution

Airbiquity, a provider of wireless data communications software solutions, has inked a global licensing agreement to provide Siemens (News - Alert) AG with Airbiquity’s aqLink software technology.

The new offering integrates Airbiquity’s aqLink in-band modem software directly into Siemens’ AC75 wireless module platform that already provides advanced automotive features and high speed packet data capabilities. The jointly-developed module will be commercially launched in the second half of 2008.

Both companies will now co-develop an additional end-to-end data communication solution that radically improves speed to market for their customers, according to David Jumpa, senior vice president, global business development for Airbiquity.

Jumpa in a statement that their customers were demanding a powerful, high quality and easy to integrate wireless GSM module. He explained that they partnered with Siemens in order to meet that need, and look forward to jointly providing their OEM customers with even more solutions that speed their overall time to market.

The companies believe that the combination of Airbiquity’s data-over-voice technology with the new AC75 platform will expand worldwide deployment opportunities by enabling two-way data transmission anywhere a cellular voice call can be made.

The agreement has broadened the offerings of both companies for reaching new customers in a variety of markets worldwide. Customers using a Siemens AC75 wireless module platform integrated with Airbiquity’s VIAaq managed data service will enjoy immediate, robust access to end-to-end telematics and other applications through the voice channel for audio and advanced data communication.

Marian Baran, vice president of wireless modules for Siemens, indicated that their partnership enhances the Siemens platform and will unlock new opportunities for Siemens in the automotive and other industry verticals. This co-developed platform is another step in Siemens’ ongoing effort to continue offering its customers market-driven technologies that keep pace with the rapidly evolving mobile industry.
