YouTube to Provide More Viewership Info

Providing advertisers additional insights which they can use to target their pitches, the popular video-sharing site YouTube (News - Alert) is giving contributors more details about who's watching their video clips and when. The industry analysts predict that the free program, known as YouTube Insight, will also help bands schedule their concerts and help anyone time the release of a new video.
According to a report in Associated Press, YouTube officials said in a blog entry announcing the program, “With this information, you can concentrate on creating compelling new content that appeals to your target audiences and post these videos on days you know these viewers are on the site.”
This launch is also expected to provide ways to Google (News - Alert) to make more money from YouTube. Google purchased YouTube in 2006 for $1.76 billion. Since then, YouTube has been both famous and infamous on various occasions, drawing all types of people to its web site. But profits are not showing up, and Google is trying hard to find ways to make money.
The AP report states that marketers who buy ads on YouTube already get a bevy of statistics about the performance of their ads. What this new program does is to break down viewership by day and shows the states or countries where most viewers are. Apart from marketers, even ordinary users can benefit from this new program. Until now, these users who loyally uploaded their video on YouTube had little idea as to who watched their video and when. Now, it will be easier for them to do so.
YouTube is also planning some additional features on this program, states the AP report. One of the facilities to be included is the ability to find out how viewers find a video, through a search, an outside link or YouTube's share-with-a-friend feature. Geographic information is based on viewers' numeric Internet Protocol address, the same mechanism Google uses to target ads by region. Some of the data will only be available to paid users.
