Wayfinder Offers New Mobile GPS Application for Outdoor Enthusiasts
By Stefania Viscusi TMCnet Assistant Editor
Wayfinder (News - Alert), a supplier of location and navigation services for mobile phones, has announced the availability of a new, free application, Wayfinder Active, in the U.S. and Canada.
The new offering provides mobile phone users with outdoor interests, maps, GPS recording and statistics, to allow them to share and track their outdoor activities with others via the Internet.
With Wayfinder Active, users can get detailed statistics like maximum, current and average speed during each activity as well as find out the distance traveled and the calories burned during their activities.
"The North American market has big potential, and it is with enthusiasm we introduce Wayfinder Active. It is also of strategic importance to extend our business offering beyond car navigation and integrating services like the interactive community ActiveOutdoor," says Magnus Nilsson, CEO of Wayfinder.
The ActiveOutdoor community makes it possible to upload activity routes recorded in a standard GPX format to the Internet, or users can preload a specific route onto the phone's caching memory. As activities are completed, the routes are automatically uploaded to the ActiveOutdoor community.
