DotMobi Advisory Group Creates Mobile Web Steering Committee

The dotMobi (News - Alert) Advisory Group (MAG) has announced the results of recent elections for seats to the MAG Steering Committee. The new MAG Steering Committee will comprise key industry executives who are nominated and elected from 13 member companies listed below.
Those companies are: Akmin Technologies, Boomcast Entertainment Corporation, Carlson Marketing Worldwide, GoDaddy, iLoop Mobile, Millennial Media, Mobility.mobi, Nokia, QuickPlay Media, SinglePoint, Smaato (News - Alert), Sony, and The Weather Channel.
As per the MAG membership charter, a maximum of 13 MAG Steering Committee members need to be elected. General MAG membership can be obtained by all commercial and trade association participants in the mobile and ICT industry community. These include mobile content, media and service providers, mobile operators, mobile device manufacturers and technology vendors, and IT technology and software vendors serving the mobile web industry.
"2007 has been a busy and highly productive year for the MAG which has seen its membership increase from less than 20 in the early part of the year to over 100 active members at this point in time," Michael O'Farrell, Chair and Executive Director of the dotMobi Advisory Group, said in a statement.
O’Farrell continued: "The distinguished line up of companies recently elected to the MAG Steering Committee is a strong vote of confidence in the MAG, the .mobi domain, the dotMobi company and the mobile web objectives that we have set forth."
"We are on aggressive growth and expansion plan in 2008," said Lauri Hirvonen, MAG Vice Chair and Senior Manager, Business Development for dotMobi from Nokia (News - Alert), in a statement. "The MAG will play a pivotal role in understanding and addressing global mobile consumer needs and trends. I cannot think of a better time for any organization impacted by the mobile web to get involved and help make a difference."
dotMobi Advisory Group has also announced numerous MAG task forces that will handle specific mobile web subject matter, including Mobile Commerce, Mobile Advertising, Mobile Search, Mobile Multimedia Content and more. All of these will be responsible for the growth of mobile Web economy worldwide.
The MAG has also begun to work towards achieving .mobi Domain Compliance and .mobi Premium Names requirements, which will create awareness on the advantages of the only made-for-mobile domain that is licensed by ICANN. The MAG has also announced the rollout of member-driven marketing, education and operations councils. These groups will work towards extending the group’s reach to a larger audience and industry alliances across the world.
