VimpelCom Develops, Implements New Mobile Payment System with Jet Infosystems

Jet Infosystems and Kabira (News - Alert) Technologies, announced the successful deployment and implementation of a new Payment Processing System, the Beepay XP on the Kabira Transaction Platform (KTP) at VimpelCom, operating under the Beeline brand.
VimpelCom has been operating its Beepay system since 2001. The company has developed in-house by its own IT specialists, for processing subscriber payments. VimpelCom realized that it was mandatory to modernize the Beepay platform in order to fulfill its expansion strategy, and thus chose Jet Infosystems that boasted a modern infrastructure that provides scalability, robustness and flexibility for the creation and management of real-time mobile payment products.
Jet Infosystems also impressed VimpelCom for their experience and the expertise of teams in designing and developing similar types of systems. At the end of 2005, the companies signed a contract for the development and implementation of the new payment processing system. The first transaction through the new Beepay XP system took place, on the April 1, 2006 by using a mobile communication unified payment card.
Developed on KTP, the Kabira Transaction Platform, the new Beepay XP system benefits from the very high transaction throughput and availability of the 64-bit memory-resident Kabira Transaction Platform to support several hundred of business transactions per second and scale beyond. All payments for VimpelCom services are processed via Beepay XP, the new payment system since January, 2008. Currently, the system processes more than 6 million transactions each day.
The companies explain that the new Beepay XP platform supports payments through different channels (cash, ATM
, credit cards, mobile devices), cards management, a significant number of partner payment points, and multiple charging systems. In addition, the platform also facilitates the launch of value-added payment services like balance transfer.
Vladimir Filippov, vice president for architecture and development at VimpelCom said in a statement that the new system not only easily deals with the increasing number of transactions conducted, but also provides a new functional approach. Thanks to this, VimpelCom have acquired an extra competitive advantage for their business activity. He acknowledged the support provided by their IT partner, Jet Infosystems, a major contributor for the success of the project.
Andrei Samoilov, director of customer services at Jet Infosystems explained that they first looked at the commercial approach of the customer in developing the new Beepay XP payment system. He noted that the application of progressive IT approaches has enabled VimpelCom to provide subscribers with a high level of service and continuously broaden the list of services offered. This demonstrates the high potential of the company within the market. Also, participation in this project has expanded the expertise of their specialists.
According to Jean-Bernard Guyonnaud, vice president Sales EMEAR for Kabira, their Kabira Transaction Processing platform is a proven platform that provides all the necessary requirements with regard to delivering carrier-grade level of performance, scalability and robustness.
Guyonnaud pointed out that this project adds to the excellent track record for KTP implementations at Tier One operators and corporate organizations in Financial Services worldwide.
