Alltel to Offer AAA Mobile
By Shamila Janakiraman TMCnet Contributing Editor
Alltel (News - Alert) Wireless and AAA, the North American motoring and leisure travel organization, have announced the release of AAA Mobile, which is downloadable through Alltel’s Axcess Shop.
AAA Mobile allows Alltel customers, including both AAA members and non-members, to find AAA Approved places of interest and locations, and provides access to AAA member roadside assistance with the help of their GPS-enabled Alltel phones. The GPS-enabled AAA Mobile application allows users to receive both audio and video directions on their Alltel Wireless phones.
The AAA Mobile service includes the ability to search among nearly 100,000 locations that offer AAA member savings. It helps locate AAA Approved POIs, including Diamond rated hotels and restaurants — detailed AAA descriptions for the POIs are given on the phone as well.
Subscribers can access maps to show destinations, and can add locations to favorites list for reference in future.
AAA member roadside assistance can be requested by subscribers of AAA Mobile in case of problems with vehicles. By pressing a single button, a subscriber’s GPS location is sent to AAA and they are immediately connected to AAA’s roadside assistance.
“Alltel Wireless is focused on bringing our customers more convenience when using their wireless phones,” said Scott Moody, director of multimedia content for Alltel Wireless. “Now, our customers can access a full-featured travel tool from one of the nation’s most respected travel organizations.”
“Because the mobile phone is a multi-function device that people use in their daily lives, it’s the perfect vehicle to offer AAA’s member roadside assistance with GPS and travel information,” said Marshall L. Doney, vice president, AAA. “The AAA Mobile service will provide significant value to Alltel customers on a daily basis.”
AAA Mobile, which is powered by the Networks In Motion (News - Alert) (NIM) location-based services platform can be downloaded from select GPS-enabled wireless phones, like Samsung u520, LG AX8600, Samsung r500, Motorola (News - Alert) Z6M, Motorola V9m, and Motorola V3a.
