By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor
The Taiwan-based High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) has cancelled its contract production of V920 series smartphone for the United Kingdom's telecom company Vodafone (News - Alert). The V920 series smartphone was slated to be released for sale in Europe.
In September, Vodafone, one of the world's biggest telecom companies, said it planned several of its own brand mobile phones, including V920 smartphone. The V920 smartphone is built with a two-megapixel camera and a 2.4-inch screen and uses 3.5-generation Internet access. The company has now dropped the plans and there has been no explanation give for the cancellation. However, some reports state that two sides agreed to drop the project based on considerations of product mix and allocation of research and development resources.
High Tech Computer, the world's largest maker of phones using Microsoft's (News - Alert) operating system by shipments, said it doesn't expect the decision to have any impact on its fourth-quarter revenue.
