Korea Gets Awaited Viewty from LG

The Viewty phone from LG Electronics (News - Alert) has finally been released on its home turf, Korea, having been available in Europe since October. The newly released model has been specifically designed for the Korean market, following the November release of versions in South Africa, Malaysia, Taiwan, UAE, Thailand, and Singapore. Since then, the Korean market has been eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Unlike LG’s Black Label series, which is primarily known for its design features, the Viewty is LG’s first high-tech category mobile phone.

According to Chang Ma, vice president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, the camera functions of the Viewty model are “highly elaborate,” allowing customers to record the “most subtle” moments in their lives. Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO and president of the company, added that, “High-tech features and premium design are two pillars of our product development direction.”

Viewty’s 5.0 megapixel camera is fitted with a certified lens and manual focusing function from Schneider-Kreuznach, and the touch-screen phone caters to the demands of serious photographers. With such a sophisticated camera function, the Viewty appeals to the camera enthusiast as well as the more traditional mobile phone buyer, who will certainly be drawn to its other rich high-tech features.

Precise imaging quality comes from the integration of technologies such as ISO200, Smartlight, and Image Stabilizer. Another new feature comes in the form of variable video speed settings; this means that users can play videos at a quarter of the normal playing speed. The technology that makes this speed variation possible is the high-speed 120fps video recording function. An additional selling point for customers is that they can easily load their images onto the Korean version of Facebook (News - Alert), known as Cyword. A 3-inch LCD screen optimizes the user’s visual enjoyment of this model.

LG has tailored the 7.2 Mbps 3G Viewty design for Korea’s main network providers, which are Korea Telecom, SK Telecom (News - Alert), Freetel and LG Telecom. Separate models of the Viewty have been designed for each provider. The European market has been using the 3.6 Mbps HSDPA global model of the phone.

LG claims to manufacture mobile phones fitting into three categories: feature-oriented, design-focused or value products.

Dr. Ahn ended the launch event speech by declaring, “We’ve successfully established the LG brand with design excellence in the global handset market.”
