By Calvin Azuri TMCnet Contributing Editor
Camera phone technology company 23half, Inc., recently released its new Thrrum Visual Browser for selected Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) phones. Priced at $5.99 as a download, this software enables users to search and browse for information merely by pointing their phone at an object.
“Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) has been a pioneer of mobile phones with advanced imaging capabilities,” said K. Gopalakrishnan, founder and CEO of 23half, in a statement. “Now, users of Sony Ericsson camera phones can point their camera phone at a book, a product label or any print material, click, and get relevant search results right inside the Thrrum Visual Browser on their phone. With Thrrum, camera phones become visual information browsers for the users' environment.”
According to figures from Gartner (News - Alert) Research, 500 million camera phones were sold in 2006, and that number is projected to increase to 1 billion by 2010. Thrrum’s software is one example of a company seeking to grab a piece of this expanding market by helping customers use their wireless phones in new ways.
Thrrum Visual Browser uses a one-click method to hyperlink physical objects and their related information.
